I'd been thinking about a coat for a long time...
I'd even had my eye on one from Arcteryx — the Diplomat Jacket. Unfortunately it was discontinued. I started searching and discovered that Icebreaker had started making coats in merino wool. I found the Legacy Trench (sporty cut, 100% merino wool). It's imported to the Czech Republic by Hudy — at least based on what I could find... But they only stock this coat in Prague, and they won't transfer it to another store. You could order it (free postage at that price) and exchange it if it doesn't fit. Since I had no idea what size would fit me, I ruled out that option and put the purchase off for later...
Imagine my surprise when I found this coat in RockPoint! (not a word about it on their website). Against expectations, size M fitted me. Fitted like a glove. The material feels very pleasant to the touch. I have to say that compared to a softshell with a membrane, you feel the difference when the wind picks up. It's almost pleasant. But when the sun comes out you get really hot in it. We'll see after the first experience with rain. It was definitely an excellent buy!
