Dell with Power Delivery

Something unfortunate happened — my hub (VersaQ) stopped working. No Power Delivery, no USB, no HDMI... just nothing. The problem is in the electronics. I started thinking about how to get out of this. I'd been considering a monitor anyway, because FullHD is fine but it's not enough these days. I needed to solve the connectivity issue and started looking. Of course monitors with hub functionality exist — you connect a laptop with a single USB-C cable which also charges it (up to 90W) and can carry video (DisplayPort Alternate Mode). That was exactly what I was looking for. Then it was just a matter of which one to pick.

Dell monitors are well known for having well-calibrated colours from the factory, and if it also offers hub functionality it'll be a good choice. I was deciding between two resolutions — 2K and 4K. The price difference was 500 CZK. So the choice was obvious: 4K! I went with the Dell P2723QE.

Installation was easy — take it out, loosen the screws, mount on the arm, tighten up and plug in. The whole thing took me about 30 seconds. The picture is great, everything works as it should.
