# Everything within reach

I needed a workspace that could fit two or three laptops, a monitor, two phones, and still leave room for writing and documents. At the same time you don't want to drown in a tangle of cables (USB-A, USB-C, power cables, HDMI...). And you can't just lay a monitor flat — if you're moving the desk up and down... a fall is the last thing you want.

## Monitor arm

I was looking for a single-monitor arm that could carry a lot of weight, was gas-assisted and built to last. After a long search I found the [X1-3D](https://www.arctic.de/en/X1-3D/AEMNT00062A). Massive and solid. Excellent choice. If you remember the legendary case fans from Arctic Cooling, yes — it's the same brand.

## Power

Not visible — that's the first requirement. I'd already sorted this. I use the modular [Allocacoc PowerStrip Modular](https://www.allocacoc.com/Home/Home/Product/category/category_id/2/group_id/644). To the base three sockets I've added two [modules](https://www.allocacoc.com/Home/Home/Product/category/category_id/2/group_id/857) with USB ports. They deliver enough current to charge a tablet too. So nothing needed to change — just drill a hole in the desk and run a USB cable through a cable grommet to the surface. All wiring (power and data) must be routed under the desktop and tied down neatly. Nothing can stick out, get in the way or otherwise disturb the setup.

## Connectivity

I spent a long time on this. A connection hub like the ones in offices requires significant work to the desktop, and is usually quite visible under the desk. I'd already chosen one — [Panconnect](https://www.panconnect.eu/) — but getting hold of it as a regular customer is impossible. In the end I solved it differently, with a hub from Asaplastici called [VersaQ](https://www.asaplastici.com/en/product/versaq/). There's a version with USB, HDMI and RJ45 connectors, connected to the computer via USB-C (with Power Delivery, up to 60W). No second thoughts needed. The solution is elegant, minimalist, and you end up with just one cable on the desk! Two, if you need to connect a USB headset.

## Seating

Last but most important — the chair! I have a chair shop nearby so I went to try out every chair they had. I ended up with the [Leaf](https://ldseating.com/cs/produkty/leaf) by LD Seating, which I configured to my preferences (armrests, base, headrest...).
