Or: how I had to break into my own house to have somewhere to sleep.
Only the dog was home — we were at a party. We came back and were greeted from behind the door by… jumping against it. As I tried to put my key in the door it became obvious what had happened. The dog had been jumping at the door and pushed the key in from inside. Now what?! After thinking it through, I concluded that the path of least resistance was the window. So I climbed up to the first floor and got through the window (I'll spare you the details — it was a non-destructive entry) and let everyone else in. In the flood of adrenaline I ignored the pain above my knee, which later turned out to be bleeding. I'd grazed myself and in the process torn my checked trousers. Ever since then we make sure to take the key out of the lock.
P.S. That same evening I ordered new trousers.
