What are wireless earbuds like
I got my hands (ears) on second-generation wireless earbuds from Apple — AirPods. They don't have IP4X certification or all the fancy extras, but they fit my ears better than the Pro version.
The range pleasantly surprised me — I can walk anywhere in the flat and listen without any dropout. The only problem is with the MacBook Pro (I keep the display closed because of the docking station), where the range drops to just a few metres (I think the antenna is in the display frame).
I do need to crank the volume up a bit more than I'm used to, which I assume is down to the earbuds' impedance. With wired earbuds I was used to the minimum setting; now I'm 2–3 notches higher.
Voice assistance ("Hey Siri") actually makes sense to me now. When I'm cooking and can't remember a recipe. When my hands are dirty and I want to skip a track, call someone because I don't know something… or when I want to know what the weather's going to be like this afternoon.
Wearing them is comfortable, you get used to them pretty quickly. The only issue is when you're wearing a respirator for an extended period — the pressure doesn't equalize and it becomes quite unpleasant.
