Another course for Czechitas

After several years of teaching the (online) security course at Czechitas, last year we decided to create a follow-up course — one that extends the basic security awareness. As it happened, a few of my former colleagues and friends who work in security joined Czechitas around the same time. Putting together another course wasn't difficult at all.

Based on feedback from the first course, we wanted to focus on endpoint security. Motivating participants on:

• Why it's good to use antivirus
• Why it's good to have a firewall enabled
• What the benefits of using an unprivileged account are
• How to back up data
• Why it makes sense to use encryption (not just disk encryption)

We also saw from the registrations that there was interest in cybersecurity as a career, so we added a brief overview of available positions and possible job responsibilities. Because some roles lean more on soft skills, others on technical ones — it depends on what you want to focus on.

We were a bit worried we'd run short on time, but in the end we finished almost exactly on the minute. As always, a ton of questions came up on all sorts of topics. We came away from the course feeling pretty good about it. We'll see at the next run how our practical demos land and whether we expand any sections.
