The first of many trips to the capital of Estonia

Arrival

Tallinn, a city on the shore of the Baltic Sea, was my next destination. The journey from Prague (PRG) was interesting in itself — we flew via Frankfurt on the way there and via Helsinki on the way back. After landing, the cold hit us immediately. One of the largest airports in the world didn't lose my luggage, so we could head straight to the hotel.

Sights

Tallinn — or rather its old town — is tremendously interesting. It's surrounded by walls with gates at several points. You could say the entire centre is very picturesque and well worth exploring. I can definitely recommend visiting the Seaplane Harbour. Not only will you see a steam-powered icebreaker and other decommissioned Estonian Navy vessels, but inside there are countless fascinating exhibits, headlined by the submarine Lembit.

Food

Not too different from what we're used to. The one thing I have to mention is the mustard. It was labelled as strong. Of course you can imagine anything by that, but this is too much even for chilli-pepper enthusiasts. For those who like a drink, I recommend trying the local beverage, Milimalikas.

About Estonians

Estonians are friendly and have a sense of humour — admittedly sometimes quite a specific one. Just watch out for taxi drivers; some will try to rip you off. You'll also run into Russians fairly often (souvenir shop vendors) and Finns (who come here for weekend parties — it's two hours by ferry from Helsinki).
