The pros and cons — why I switched from one app to the other.

Having a backup is always an advantage. But what do you do with two-factor authentication? Yes, most sensible services will offer you backup codes (usually 10). But what if that option isn't available? Will you back up the whole app? On Android that's only possible if your phone is rooted — which is a path to hell. The other option is to use an app that supports backup natively.

That alternative is Authy. What does it offer? Native app protection (Touch ID), synchronisation across multiple devices (handy when switching phones, using both a phone and a tablet,...) and backup (to the cloud). For app access protection you can also use a PIN or password. Cloud backup might sound scary, but as you can read on Authy's blog, they've done it properly.
