What interesting things did I discover while writing my thesis? Identifying YouTube traffic is fairly complex but possible. Adverts on stream.cz can be identified in NetFlow. Which means they can be blocked — no more pre-roll ads! Skype can be detected regardless of whether it uses port TCP/80 or TCP/443. TeamViewer identification is possible regardless of whether it uses port TCP/80 or TCP/443. We can fairly easily distinguish ssh traffic from ssh -X. IP cameras are identified by the IP addresses and ports that transfer the highest number of bytes. The full text of the thesis is available in IS MUNI.
