Arrival

The journey to Stavanger, a small town on the North Sea coast, went via Oslo. After landing at the local airport several things will impress you. The airport is beautiful — all wood — and they take ecology and operations seriously. I mustn't forget the reminder that nobody waits for anyone: "No final calls." The connection between Oslo and Stavanger was fairly quick and we got to admire the landscape and snow-capped mountains from above. On the way back we decided to use the newly established Prague–Stavanger route.

Nature

On the way from the airport we spotted three swords plunged into a rock — but that's not the only nod to the Viking presence here. Norway is pleasant to look at. Green everywhere you look. Whether it's the strip of woodland along the motorway or a neighbour's stone wall with grass growing on top. Even when you walk up a hill in the city you get a beautiful view. And if there's something you missed... you'll definitely go back to Norway.

Food

Salmon — you can't not mention it — is exactly what you have to try. It doesn't matter whether it's fresh or smoked. It will definitely taste different from what you get back home. Generally speaking, the food here is very "healthy" and "high quality." Which of course comes with a price to match.

About Norwegians

They're friendly and will help you, but they certainly won't wait for you when things are supposed to have started already. Their relationship with nature and renewable energy doesn't need explaining — just look at the street... a few electric cars (most of them Teslas) drive past and it's more than clear. Another thing you won't easily find elsewhere is gender equality. They treat it as a given. Since we arrived on a public holiday, I should also mention national pride. Even small boys were in suits, and women were typically dressed in traditional costume.
