A first flight to a new destination is always a ceremonial affair.

I had the honour in Stavanger. Czech Airlines introduced a direct Prague–Stavanger route with the new summer schedule. So we decided to take advantage of it and fly back from Norway on the direct service. Unlike the other passengers I had a rough idea of what was going to happen. So I found a good spot at the gate with a view of the taxiway exit and as soon as the plane landed (flightradar.com is quite a handy thing) I rushed to the window to get a good position. By then the fire engines were already in place and getting ready for the arch. As soon as the aircraft turned onto the right exit, all my fellow passengers were watching in disbelief at what was happening... (two large jets of water formed an "arch" for the plane to pass through).

That's exactly how you welcome a new route!

After check-in and finding our seats we set off for Prague. Once we reached cruising altitude the senior cabin crew member announced that he was opening champagne. It was, after all, the inaugural flight. A very pleasant surprise. The captain wrapped up the flight with the smoothest landing I've ever experienced — a very kind gift to all the passengers.
