I'd never heard of this instrument in my life.

Until Museum Night came along with a tour of the Brno Philharmonic. In one room there were some strange, large instruments looking like a xylophone. The mallets looked like larger dulcimer hammers. The gentlemen started playing... and that sound! Piercing, pleasant, completely unlike anything you're used to from an orchestra. A striking, dynamic piece full of emotion that you'll feel throughout your whole body, not just in your ears.
