On a recommendation from Forbes magazine… we spent our holiday on Menorca

We landed late and after picking up our luggage we were greeted with an unpleasant surprise. The hotel had sold more rooms than it actually had and was offering us compensation — accommodation somewhere completely different (Sant Tomàs), All Inclusive at a hotel with no children. Well, what choice do you have at eleven in the evening?

The next morning we explored the surroundings and the hotel. There was plenty of food and drink. The beach was just a few steps from the hotel — beautiful clean sand and you could see all the way to the bottom. One day we spent walking to a cove several kilometres away in the middle of nowhere. Another day we took the bus to the westernmost town, Ciutadella. Another day was devoted to a tour organised by the travel agency — focusing on the eastern part of the island (Maó-Mahón). Among other things, the photo in Binibequer Vell was taken on that trip. I also mustn't forget one day when we rented a car and decided to drive around the interesting spots on the island (covering several hundred kilometres).

Menorca is beautiful. Not at all overcrowded — you'll find hidden coves, crystal-clear water, and breathtaking nature. I also can't fail to mention the laid-back locals who aren't easily rattled.

If you're not primarily looking for nightlife (Ibiza), go to Menorca. It's not the mainstream option, but it's the one that's worth it.
