The Madrid metro is quite large — 12 lines, making it one of the biggest and oldest in Europe.

So we were fairly worried about getting lost during our visit to the Spanish capital.

Our fears turned out to be groundless. Everything is clear and logical. You can always clearly see which platform you need, how to transfer to another line, how to reach the street you're looking for. Everything displayed simply. When transferring, you have no trouble at all finding the right platform. Prague could learn a thing or two from Madrid in many respects.

But to avoid nothing but praise: figuring out which ticket you need for the public transport system will probably require a university degree. A terribly confusing system and also a bit unfair. Paying an extra €3 just because I'm travelling to/from the airport strikes me as absurd.
