I decided to swap my Vodafone 845 running Android 2.1 for a new phone.

The question was: which one? I wanted stock Android, preferably Lollipop, with a guarantee of further updates (say to Android M), and it shouldn't cost a fortune. With that in mind I started searching the internet. All I could find was Samsung, and Chinese-only brands like Xiaomi and ZTE didn't appeal to me. Google phones are too expensive. Then I spotted Motorola — specifically the new generation Moto E. It has everything I wanted.

Buying it wasn't easy — Motorola has no official representation in the Czech Republic. So I got the phone from German distribution. The first thing that sticks with you is the shape — it's very comfortable to hold. The display feels huge to me even after a month. Android runs very smoothly and lasts up to five days without charging (I don't turn WiFi on often and I have Battery Saver enabled).

The one thing that slightly spoils the impression is the updates already mentioned. Motorola officially started updating the Moto E 4G/LTE (2nd gen) as early as 5 May (US). Up to today, OTA updates have only been available to customers in America (North and South). When we in Europe will see them is an open question... Not to mention the release of the Stagefright patch (CVE-2015-1538, CVE-2015-1539, CVE-2015-3824, CVE-2015-3826, CVE-2015-3827, CVE-2015-3828 and CVE-2015-3829).
