A comprehensive look at Mucha's work

I'd never seen the Slav Epic before. So when it was installed in Brno as part of the RE:PUBLIKA festival, I was very happy. The exhibition also includes the posters Mucha created — both advertising and propaganda work.

I have to say it's an impressive collection. The Epic is in a category of its own — only 7 of the 20 paintings were on display. The posters pull you in to late 19th-century France. And the ads? Subtle — the main subject is definitely not what takes up the most space. That would be the woman!

I really enjoyed the exhibition. I'd love to see the whole Epic together one day. You just need distance to take in the full picture.
