Self-employment and side work
Due to the impact of changes in Czech labour law, my agreement with Czechitas was terminated. I'm not surprised — the bureaucracy around it is simply insane. Instead, I'll be doing the bureaucracy myself, though hopefully not quite as brutal. I'll still have to prepare and submit reports. But let me start from the beginning. Working for a corporation usually means all side activities are either prohibited or require approval. Same here — you fill in a form, and it has to be signed off by a lot of people. They typically want to talk to you about it first, to understand what it involves and to confirm there's no conflict of interest. So we got the approval. Now comes the bureaucracy.
You can register a trade licence online, but even after reading all the requirements, the form isn't the most intuitive or clear — at least until you get to the section where you choose who to notify. It doesn't feel very straightforward, and it's essentially a digitised paper form, as I physically confirmed at the trade licensing office. We filled out the exact same form there. The difference is the official knew what he was doing, unlike me. The whole thing took him about 12 minutes including payment, when I had to run out to the terminal in the corridor.
I really liked how at the end the official warned me about the scam practices of various registries. No dodgy letters have arrived yet — the first to contact me was AirBank with an offer of a business account. Their app can even generate invoices, which is a nice feature. But I'll be sticking with Fakturovač. We'll see how useful it is when it comes time to submit reports.
