Czech Railways — no comment.

On Friday I spent 40 extra minutes on the train; on Sunday only 30. Why? I'd genuinely like to know. I'd pin it on EU subsidies and the reconstruction of absolutely everything they fund. Brno has multiple spots like this, the line to Přerov is single-track on top of that, closures, and the maintenance that comes with them — none of this is news to regular passengers.

What did surprise me was single-track operation on the main corridor. The affected section was between Lipník nad Bečvou and Drahotuše. I understand the corridor needs maintenance, but holding several trains while letting three higher-category trains through from the other direction (Pendolino, an express, and an international) doesn't strike me as the ideal algorithm. Repairs are certainly necessary, but does the customer have to suffer for it? On the motorway, Student Agency tackled this head-on — if you're delayed more than 30 minutes they refund part of your fare, and over 60 minutes you get your full ticket back.

I seriously doubt we'll ever see anything like that from the state railway operator…
