A visit to an aircraft graveyard

The Pima Air & Space Museum is a must-visit for any aviation enthusiast. Perhaps even more interest lies in the nearby aircraft "graveyard", the Boneyard. However, that's part of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and visits are only possible on weekdays — booking in advance is required.

What strikes anyone from the Czech Republic is the access to the exhibits. Here they're within arm's reach, as close as you can imagine. A rope around an aircraft is only the exception. You can often look inside. It's paradise, not just for photographers.

The museum itself spans not just hangars but outdoor areas too. Worth mentioning are historical aircraft from the aerobatic teams Thunderbirds and Blue Angels. The fastest aircraft, the SR-71. The presidential Air Force One. Bombers — B-17, B-24, B-25 and B-29. Countless transport aircraft. On top of all that, there are guides in every hangar who often flew the very aircraft they're talking about, so they'll always tell you something you didn't know and throw in a personal story too.

Pima Air & Space Museum is definitely a place worth seeing. Allow at least half a day — and don't forget to book the Boneyard too.
