Parquet floor renovation

During the flat viewing we discovered there was parquet hiding under the current floors! Great news. The existing floors are dark — even though it's wood, it makes the space feel heavy. We decided to renovate the parquet. That meant removing the current flooring — quite a lot of work given the area across all the rooms with parquet. Plus the floating floor isn't glued, so it could be reused. Taking it all up, wrapping it, and storing it is a lot of work. Especially since in one room the floor is glued lengthwise — one piece is about four metres long.

Then it's a fairly standard process: sand, fill, and oil! Having learned from previous flats with parquet, we went for an oil finish. The floor isn't shiny and is fairly easy to refresh — just oil it again. It brings out the wood's texture. Combined with the parquet patterns it looks really beautiful. On the flip side, it will need some maintenance and occasional re-oiling.
