Battery-powered

Times move on and it was time to replace our old mower with a battery-powered one. Picking the right one turned out to be quite a challenge. The garden is fairly large — over 600 m². That means you need a big battery capacity. We also wanted self-propulsion so everyone could mow, not just those with more physical strength.

In the end the decision was made when my grandmother picked up the Greenworks (GD40LM46SP). At the shop they recommended the largest battery, which is good for 70 minutes of mowing (6 Ah, 40V). The collection bag is a decent size (55 litres). How did it perform in practice?

The self-propulsion is a great feature — it's not a Tesla. Once it gets going, you have to pay attention because it doesn't stop immediately. I didn't time the mowing sessions but it was just enough for the whole garden. It later turned out that it makes a big difference which mowing pattern you use. Heavy use of self-drive can eat into a not-insignificant chunk of battery capacity.

Overall impression is positive. Very curious to see how the battery fares after winter and six months of use.
