Network woes

When you're waiting in a hospital you want to pass the time — I get it. That's why some hospitals have set up WiFi. If the hospital doesn't have WiFi, you have mobile data, right? Yes, that expensive data… And since I was waiting at a hospital and wanted to work and save on data, knowing the hospital had public WiFi seemed like a plan.

Evidently there was some kind of problem. After connecting to freenet.uvn I got an APIPA address and was going nowhere. I turned on mobile data on my phone and created a hotspot instead. What is interesting, though, is that the staff WiFi was working normally — or at least, it assigned me an address.

Hopefully they'll fix it — internet access is useful. Even in a hospital.

P.S. On public networks always use a VPN (full tunnel) — always, no exceptions.

Update May 2019: If you connect to the staff network you get an address; you won't actually log in, but if you then switch to the guest access point you'll be connected.
