New documents in half a day

I misplaced my wallet — and with it all my documents (including my debit card, health insurance card, and other cards). Or: how to sort out all your documents in three hours...

I tackled the worst one first. I started with the national ID. Luckily, you can get an ID done at any office with extended powers. The longest part is waiting in the queue — after that it goes fairly quickly. The clerk even asked me what else I had in the wallet, so she could walk me through what else she could help with. A driving licence is trickier — you can only get a replacement at your place of permanent residence. If you want to report its loss, the police won't help you and neither will calling the office. You have to do it in person — which is a real pain.

Getting a new payment card was pretty quick. I came in, reported it, and signed the paper for issuing a new card. I'd already blocked the lost card by then. All that was left was confirming it was blocked and moving on. A minor complication was that my payment card also doubles as a šalinkarta carrier. I had to get a new one — the Brno city transport operator (DPMB) helped me with that.

I blocked my InKarta and had a duplicate issued — a matter of a few minutes. I got a temporary paper version. The RegioJet credit ticket was one of the quickest things — I came in, identified myself, and the clerk issued me a new one on the spot.

While sorting out my health insurance card I didn't even sit down — the clerk identified me from my passport and a new card was already printing.

The longest turnaround time went to the Czech Railways — 30 days, followed by the Ministry of the Interior (not 30 days, more like 18). Česká spořitelna issued my card in under a week.

The whole thing was pointless in the end — I found the wallet that afternoon...
