Shooting with continuous light

I wanted to try shooting with LED lights and the opportunity came up quickly. Tomáš uses them and offered to show me the ropes.

I'd never shot with continuous light before — it was always flash. Continuous is much more comfortable because you see the result straight away. LED lights have the added advantage of being much smaller and more portable. On the flip side, to get the same result you sometimes need to improvise a bit (lighting the full length of a standing figure, for example).

The bonus is being able to change the light colour. Really handy when you want to highlight or bring out a lit subject. It does have a downside though — wherever the coloured light meets natural light or a second colour, there'll be a transition. That can work in your favour or against you, depending on the mood you're going for.

It was a genuinely useful experience. The right colour really does reinforce the intent. See for yourself. If you want to try it too, get in touch with Tomáš.
