Brno is being dug up pretty much constantly — you get used to it.
But what's happening this summer I've never experienced before, and I hope I never will again. They're laying a new road surface on Úvoz, something underground is being excavated at the Lesnická × Generála Píky junction, and someone decided this was the right time to resurface near Tomkovo náměstí too.
The list isn't complete — these are just the ones affecting my daily commute the most. Add the dug-up Milady Horákové street and traffic jams become a standard part of the journey to and from work. My commute normally takes about 20 minutes; since the start of July I haven't once made it in under 35. On the first day they squeezed traffic into the opposite lane at Tomkovo náměstí, I didn't arrive at work for 40 minutes! I dread what's coming after the holidays, when Minská and Horova streets are apparently next in line…
The need for a scooter is becoming more than urgent.
