Mozart's City
We decided it was time to take our little one on a bigger trip than just travelling around the Czech Republic. We'd already spent a few days in Vienna before, but this journey was on a completely different scale. Why? Because we travelled by train! We changed trains in Vienna and then continued all the way to Salzburg. The trip itself was quite comfortable, although the train from Vienna was packed to the brim. It starts at Vienna Airport, and since it's a codeshare service with Austrian Airlines, many passengers travel directly from the airport to Salzburg.
I can highly recommend the Salzburg region as a destination. Guests receive a card that allows free travel on public transportation across a surprisingly large area, including both trains and buses. You'll also get discounted admission to selected attractions when using public transport. It's an excellent way to explore lakes, mountains, open-air museums, and traditional museums without needing a car.
If I had to recommend just one place, it would be the Freilichtmuseum. It's a huge open-air museum that showcases the history and architecture of every part of the Salzburg region. There is plenty of space for children to run around and have fun. You can get there for free using public transport, and the guest card even gives you a discount on the entrance fee.
