Visiting Heidelberg, Germany

Arrival

A rail connection from the airport to the whole country is a brilliant thing. Even more so when you can check your luggage at the rail terminal and don't have to drag it with you! The cherry on top is a transfer time of under 30 minutes between the plane and the train.

Atmosphere

Heidelberg is a university town — small, you can comfortably cover the whole centre on foot in no time. I felt very much at ease. The Neckar river flowing through the city makes the panorama very appealing. Not to mention the famous old stone bridge (Karl-Theodor-Brücke / Alte Brücke).

I was staying at the same hotel chain as usual — imagine my surprise when in Germany they don't care what time you'll arrive... Different country, different customs.
