During my years studying at Masaryk University I never had time to see this fireworks competition.

It always clashed with exam period and some exam. Until this year! The opening and closing fireworks were fired from Špilberk (Špilberk Castle), the intermezzo took place in the Hněvkovský grounds, and the competition show as always at Prýgl (Brno reservoir). Since I'd always wanted to try photographing it, I did. The first show went badly... somehow I forgot about bulb mode and the photos weren't what I'd had in mind. The next ones turned out much better. Because of the smoke that builds up after firing large amounts of pyrotechnics, the shots weren't exactly dazzling. Here and there I missed the full display because some shapes were too high. That's probably the only issue still to be worked out — otherwise I managed fairly well to capture what I wanted. Overall I'm mixed about the fireworks. The effects are beautiful, but I still can't hear or see the connection with the music being produced alongside it on the radio. To be fair, there were moments when it clicked... but there weren't many. We'll see if I go next time. Running into half of Brno on the tram isn't exactly something I look forward to.
