20 Years with Nikon

20 Years with Nikon

Switching systems

I've been with Nikon for about 20 years. I started with a D50 and the 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 kit lens plus a 50mm prime. Not long after came a Tamron 70-300 f/5.6-6.3. Then an upgrade to a D80. A new kit lens 18-135 f/3.5-5.6, then an 85 f/1.8 to go with the 50 f/1.8 I already had. And...

Account compromise on social media

On Tuesday morning I woke up to a notification from Filip Horký about an attack on our soldiers... a few moments later the message was denied — the Prime Minister's account had been hacked. Not just his — the Spolu coalition account as well. How the vxunderground...

Testing PoE

I was reading an article about ad blockers and the author mentioned running AdGuard on a Raspberry Pi Zero 2. That caught my attention — why have an RPi 4B when I could just use a Pi Zero? And it could even run on PoE! Since the Dream Router supports PoE on two ports, the choice was ob...

A still from the Kybez podcast: a man with glasses speaking at a table with a microphone
Since at the time I was employed at DBG I asked my manager for approval. That didn't come through. After changing jobs and another trip to Prague we finally made it h...

2024 in review

What were the highlights of this year?

OS: Got Windows 11 at work — it's starting to become usable… but the waste of system resources is still there.

Technology: The M4 chip — it's a rocket! Intel can go home.

Event: The birth of my son is an experience for a lifetime.

Migrating to a New Phone

From iPhone 8 to iPhone 16

My iPhone lost OS update support a while back... then in November I got a notification from 1Password saying that version 8.12 would be the last update for my version of iOS — decision made. Time for a new phone. I'll try the migration.
A 1Password notice: to take full advantage of the app you need to update iOS, the December release requires iOS 17
Given how Apple's release cycle...
