Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated film about the evacuation of (Allied) troops from Dunkirk to Britain in 1940 caught my attention.

I like Nolan's films, I enjoy war dramas — there was nothing to think about. The story is powerful, it pulls you into the action from start to finish. At first you follow several separate storylines that eventually converge into one. It's all underscored by excellent cinematography, detailed production design, and sound. The gunshots had me flinching in my seat, and during the Ju 87 dive-bombing runs I genuinely felt awful — I'd call it dread. The music is a chapter unto itself; Hans Zimmer did outstanding work. I stayed in the cinema right to the end to hear the full closing credits. The theme is based on variations of Edward Elgar. The film exceeded my expectations — one of the best war films I've ever seen.
