No more paper, everything on a card!

The electronic tram card was an obvious choice from the moment DPMB announced it. I wasn't sure how they'd technically secure the card data, so I asked a few questions. The security meets today's standards (PCI DSS) — no question there. In my thanks I just mentioned that I was glad about compatibility with a deactivated contactless function (which I got no reply to, so I took it as confirmation that it would work). Which later turned out to be untrue.

I registered, registered the card carrier, and bought the tram pass. All that was left was verification at the transport authority. When my turn came I tapped the card and it made a sound like a shop terminal. That means it doesn't work. I was surprised — I'd assumed it would. Little did I know it couldn't work at all. The transport authority employee sent me to my bank branch to activate the contactless function.

The next episode took place at a Česká spořitelna branch. The young woman informed me that the contactless function is deactivated at the factory, which means I need a new card! Oh well. A new card is on its way...
