A trip to the land of tulips

Arrival

Schiphol is one of Europe's biggest hubs. After landing it takes a while to reach the terminal. Unless something unusual is happening, it runs like clockwork. Before departure I'd recommend visiting the viewing deck and the Fokker 100 parked there.

Atmosphere

Amsterdam is a pretty busy city. In the context of the fairly narrow streets it's that much more noticeable. There are areas where cannabis is quite fragrant in the air, and others that are fairly calm. There's definitely a friendly vibe and there's always something to discover.

Food

Cheese — I have to mention that first and foremost. If you want to take some home you'll taste a lot of them. Try one variety at different stages of maturity, or the flavoured ones. Otherwise you won't find anything dramatically new food-wise — it's still Europe, after all.

About Amsterdam

It's the first place with water canals I've visited. I was constantly photographing because those little houses look wonderful with the water. Especially if you come across any painted ones. What I can't get my head around is how some of them are so crooked and still standing. Overall Amsterdam feels pleasant. Crooked houses, narrow streets and water canals make this city quite attractive for a photographer. Add tulips (and generally lavish floral decoration) to the mix and it's a delight to look at.
