During October I was supposed to be teaching cybersecurity to secondary school students as part of the "Master Digital Technologies" programme as an instructor. Due to low interest a partner had to be found to support the teaching. That partner turned out to be Huawei. At that poi...
Times move on and it was time to replace our old mower with a battery-powered one. Picking the right one turned out to be quite a challenge. The garden is fairly large — over 600 m². That means you need a big battery capacity. We also wanted self-propulsion so everyone could mow, n...
We were heading to a wedding and I discovered something unpleasant. I'd put on a lot of muscle. My arms barely fit in the sleeves, and the jacket was too small across the chest. Which is a shoutout to the Železná koule online coaching program. Time for a made-to-measure suit — of...
I was given the opportunity to present at the IS2 conference on the topic of Ransomware. It wasn't just a presentation though — it also required a paper for the conference proceedings. That was new for me; I'd never written anything like it before. It's a bit like a seminar pap...
My Garmin (Instinct Tactical) can track open-water swimming using GPS (optionally GPS+GLONASS/GALILEO). I selected open water swimming, waited for the satellite signal, and jumped in. After a good swim I got out, looked at the watch, and saw zero.

I didn't move my appointment up even though the option was there. I had my form filled in from last time so I basically just walked in until I reached the doctor. We went over whether I'd had any reaction and he sent me on. Ironically I spent the most time waiting to get the...
A former colleague tipped me off about AdGuard Home. It looked clean, simple, with DoH support. I decided to give it a shot. Installation was very straightforward and the initial setup wizard is nicely guided. I got the HTTPS certificate via ZeroSSL, which supports email ve...
Since I use Capture for more comfortable camera carrying, on one trip my Nikon strap kept getting tangled up everywhere. I looked at some options and settled on the Slide from Peak Design. I chose it so I could carry the camera the same way as a firearm — single-point. The ability to quickly...
I'd been thinking about a smartwatch for a long time. I wanted to know how fast I run, what my pace is. How many steps I take in a day... and I'd also like to know how far I've swum, and so on. So I searched until I found it: Garmin Instinct Tactical. Why those in particular?
They c...
